Recycled products are changing the world for the better, and Dove’s 100% Recycled Bottles Initiative is taking a giant leap.
Plastic waste is one of the defining environmental challenges of our time — oceans filled with debris, landfills swelling, recycling systems strained. In this context, when a big consumer brand pledges to shift to 100% recycled plastic in its packaging, it’s worth paying attention.
Dove (a Unilever brand) has committed to exactly that: packaging select products in bottles made from 100% recycled plastic wherever technically feasible. This move doesn’t solve the plastic crisis by itself, but it’s a bold step in the more sustainable direction of circular packaging.
This move aims to reduce an estimated 20,500 tons of virgin (new) plastic in use each year and claims to lessen CO2 emissions due to recycling using less energy and emitting fewer greenhouse gases.
This shift in recycled material also helps pressure the industry into shifting supply chains toward more sustainable norms encouraging a “Circular Care” approach: reducing plastic where possible, improving recyclability, and exploring reuse or refill models.
Dove’s shift to 100% recycled bottles is not a perfect solution, but it represents meaningful progress in the beauty industry’s struggle with single-use plastic. It shows how scale and brand influence can push packaging systems forward.
Sustainability isn’t a fixed destination — it’s a journey with trade-offs, challenges, and evolving technologies. But by telling stories, pushing for transparency, and choosing better options when we can, consumers and brands alike contribute to pushing that journey forward.
Here at EnviroPromo, we appreciate what Unilever is doing because of our core principles of “Recycle – Organic – Sustainability” which is what we are all about! This initiative is one step forward in a marathon race to reach our goal of a world where environmentally conscientious is a normal thought for everyone.
